HERE SHE COMES TO SAVE THE DAY
“Conservatives used to be good at politics. But, this year, they’ve been completely skunked by this moderate guy from Massachusetts that, frankly, most of them don’t like or trust very much.” – Ellis Henican
Rick Santorum, trailing Mitt Romney in the polls, got an endorsement he terms “a very big deal.”
With the South Carolina primary one week away, a group of 150 conservative influential evangelical Christian leaders, meeting at a ranch outside Houston, endorsed Rick Santorum for the Republican presidential nomination. Just what he needs – or too little, too late?
Fox & Friends (and foes) Clayton Thomas, Liz Peek, David Webb and Ellis Henican give their take on the latest Republican Primary news:
Jay – are you that naive. There are plenty of people who will vote the way they are told to. Religious extremists are probably the most suscpetible to this. Call it coersion or call it a suggestion, wither way the word of a religious leader carries a lot of weight. Want another example? Union workers. Theres a lot of pressure and pursuasion to vote the way your union leadsers tell you to. Not everyone has the knowledge to make their won choices or the desire to learn about the candidates. An endorsement of this type DOES matter.
Ellis, candidates feel energized when they get endorsements from community leaders and newspapers and actors in Hollywood. There has never been evidence of any kind that an endorsement, while sounding good ever translates into a majority of votes. People sometimes will look at lifestyle and financial matters first. If you have not gone on vacation for years or you lost your house or your job, others telling you who to vote for does not mean as much as your own opinion.Another thing, under all circumstances, once someone is in the booth, it is their time and usually it is in secret. Mitt Romney is on a 1964 like roll and if you think he is not going to get the nomination please tell me who will and why.
