It’s been called the year of the Constitutionalist. The Republican field of candidates for President have been busy positioning themselves as strict upholders of the Constitution.
They’ve also been asked by Morality in Media to make statements supporting anti-pornography legislation and three of the leading GOP candidates – Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney – have done just that. But is this a contradiction? The Constitution’s First Amendment guarantees the right of free speech and it does not grant Congress any power to regulate or criminalize obscenity.
