“People who are anti-gay—are they just a little bit gay themselves? It’s something I have long suspected but now I have some unexpected academic support.” – Ellis Henican
Homophobes and people who fear homosexuality the most are actually likely to have experienced an attraction to a member of the same sex, according to a new study.
Research, to be published this month in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, suggests that homophobes develop such anti-gay attitudes after repressing their own same-sex desires.
Ellis Henican, hosting the Alan Colmes Radio Show (4/9/12), spoke with callers who both disgreed with and agreed with this study. One caller, though, had his own theory of which people had a right to even state an opinion on the subject – prompting Ellis to ask the caller if he had experienced gay sex.
